Pine Straw
At Matt’s Lawn Care, we take pride in delivering clean, professional pine straw installations for commercial and residential landscapes.
Pine straw is good for suppressing weeds. Pine straw is an excellent mulch choice for maintaining moisture, insulating plant roots, and adding a natural aesthetic.
We install rolls of long leaf pine needles using the Curling process, where we use a blower to carefully walk alongside the edges of freshly laid pine straw, curling the edge down and back under itself a blower is used to clean hard surfaces and ensure the straw is settled properly. This technique creates a defined bed with rolled edges, resulting in a professional look.
Our standard practice is to spread pine straw at a consistent 2 to 3-inch thickness, ensuring a clean, even surface without unsightly clumps left from the baling process.
We take care to keep pine straw off bushes, walls, and tree trunks, preserving the natural beauty of your landscape. Additionally, we ensure that all baling twine is removed from the landscaping beds and surrounding areas, leaving your property neat and professionally finished.
MULCH
If it’s been awhile since you’ve had mulch in your flower beds, it’s time to think about adding a layer of mulch. Our flowerbed mulching services are very useful because natural wood mulch is extremely beneficial for your flower beds. Wood mulch traps moisture in the soil so you don’t have to water as often, and it acts as an insulator so your plants’ roots don’t get too hot. (It has the same effect in the winter, keeping plants from getting too cold.) A good layer of mulch also helps to suppress weeds, so you don’t have to weed as often!
A natural mulch can act as a soil conditioner as it breaks down over the season.
Be preparation is important prior to installing mulch. To be most effective, weeds should be removed from the bed either by spraying with an appropriate herbicide or manually removing the weeds. Once the bed is prepped, putting down a good 2 to 3 inches of mulch will be effective at suppresses most weeds throughout the season.
We can install shredded mulch or mulch nuggets in a variety of colors based on your preference. For large flower bed areas we can deliver bulk loads of mulch which is more cost effective. For smaller jobs, we will deliver bags of mulch.
If your flower bed edge is no longer visible, we can fix that. We can hand spade the beds which will give you a neat, well-defined edge.
